Biographie
Colin est né en East Anglia, à l’est de l’Angleterre, en 1944 et peint depuis son enfance. Après avoir étudié les beaux-arts à ‘Hornsey Art College’ à Londres, il a travaillé pendant de nombreuses années comme professeur d’art et sculpteur en Angleterre et a continué à peindre et à exposer son travail. En 1989, il s’installe avec sa famille dans le sud de la France, rénovant une vieille maison en pierre et construisant son atelier. “Le processus de peindre pour moi est de trouver ce qui est caché, dans ce monde qui est très contrôlé, en se relâchant cette contrôle et permettre aux possibilités de faire surface. Une peinture est une fenêtre à un autre monde, qui laisse stimuler les émotions et permettre de voir des choses différemment”. Son travail est en constante évolution, influencé par l’art qu’il a vu et étudié, et inspiré par le sentiment d’émerveillement et de mystère de la vie. La seule constante est le respect du processus de peinture lui-même.
“Il faut rêver et laisser les choses venir du plus profond de soi. Mes peintures n’essaient pas de rivaliser avec les images modernes et sophistiquées qui visent à manipuler, elles sont destinées à stimuler votre imagination avec un sentiment de mystère”.
Colin was born in East Anglia, England, in 1944 and has been painting since childhood. After studying Fine Art at Hornsey Art College, London, he worked as an art teacher and sculptor in England for many years and continued painting and exhibiting his work. In 1989 he moved with his family to southern France, renovating an old stone house and constructing his studio. “Painting for me is about finding what is hidden, through losing control and allowing the possibilities to surface. A painting is a window into another world which can stimulate your emotions and allow you to see things differently”. His work is continually evolving, influenced by art he has seen and studied, and inspired by a sense of life’s wonder and mystery. The one constant is respect for the painting process itself.
